DIAGONALS Knitting Stitch Pattern
This post was originally published in 2019 and has been updated with a new high-resolution chart, photo, and improved instructions for 2026.
Bring a sense of movement to your knitting with the Diagonals stitch pattern. This beginner-friendly design uses a clever arrangement of basic knit and purl stitches to create a subtle, shifting texture that is incredibly easy to achieve. Part of the Oh La Lana! Stitch Library, it’s a versatile choice for everything from modern baby blankets to textured home decor. If you love geometric patterns, this 6-row repeat is about to become a favourite in your collection!
Tip:Â Because the Diagonals stitch has a strong stockinette base, it may curl at the edges if used for a scarf. For a perfectly flat finish, I recommend adding a 3-stitch garter border on each side and blocking your finished piece!
