FREE easy crochet blanket pattern: WAVES blanket

This very easy crochet blanket pattern is not only fast to knit, but also a great way to bust your leftover yarn stash. I’ve made several of these blankets to give away as presents. And some for my dog too!

The entire pattern is available for free below, using US and UK terminology. And, in case you want to contribute to my work, you can also find the downloadable PDF pattern for sale in my stores (Etsy, Ravelry and here in my website).

Let’s go to the pattern!

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS (for the rainbow blanket in the main photo)

ยญ Length: 31” (79 cm)

ยญ Width: 21” (54 cm)

You can easily modify these measures by adding more repeats of the pattern. Write me a comment if you need help.

To avoid confusion, I wrote the instructions twice: first using US crochet terms and abbreviations, and second using UK crochet terminology. Please follow the ones you are familiar with:)

1) WAVES BLANKET – US crochet terminology

MATERIALS

  • ยญ 1 hook H
  • ยญ 1 hook I
  • ยญ Chunky / Bulky weighted yarn.
  • Tapestry needle to loose yarn ends and scissors.

ABBREVIATIONS (US)

  • ch: chain
  • SC: single crochet
  • DC: double crochet
  • 2 DC tog: 2 double crochet together
  • st: stitch

INSTRUCTIONS

ยญ- With the I hook, ch 80. The chain is made with a bigger hook than the rest to make the border more stretchy.

  • Preparation row) Change to H hook and, beginning at 3rd ch from hook, SC all ch (78 SC)

ยญ- Follow the next pattern (the first DC is made with ch3):

Row 1) 3 DC, *(2 DC tog)x3, (2 DC in the same st)x6, (2 DC tog)x3*, repeat from * to * 3 more times, 3 DC.

Row 2) DC all stitches (78 DC)

ยญRepeat these 2 rows until you reach the desired length for each stripe of your blanket, ending with row 2. To obtain the blanket on the photos, I repeated the 2ยญ-rows pattern 4 times for each color.

  • Ending row) SC all st with I hook.

ยญ- Cut yarn and loose ends with tapestry needle.

2) WAVES BLANKET – UK crochet terminology

  • TR: treble
  • 2 TR tog: 2 treble together

INSTRUCTIONS

ยญ- With your #5 hook, ch 80. The chain is made with a bigger hook than the rest to make the border stretchier.

  • Preparation row) Change to #6 hook and, beginning at the 3rd ch from hook, DC all ch (78 DC).
