WARNING!!!

If you’re using stitch markers to separate repeats of the pattern, BEWARE! During rows 1 to 6, you’ll have the same amount of sts outside repeats at each side, but in the 7th row that amount changes. For instance, for the individual square you have 3 sts before repeats and 4 sts after. But in the 7th row, you have 2 before the first repeat and 5 after the last one. Maybe you should remove markers while knitting the 6th row?

ABBREVIATIONS

  • CO: cast on
  • BO: bind off
  • RS: right side
  • WS: wrong side
  • st: stitch
  • k: knit
  • p: purl
  • k2tog: knit 2 sts together
  • skp: slip 1 st as if to knit, knit 1 st, pass the slipped st over
  • SK2P: slip 1 st as if to knit, k2tog, pass the slipped st over
  • yo: yarn over

INSTRUCTIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL SQUARES

– CO 65 sts with US 6 (4 mm) needles.

I always cast on and bind off stitches with larger needles than I use for the main work. This prevent my cast on and bind off rows from being too tight.

– With US 4 (3,5 mm) needles, knit 6 rows.

Slip first stitch on every row as if you were to knit it, but without knitting it (except on the first row). It will form a neat and sturdy border.

– Continue working as follows:

5 garter sts, LACE PATTERN N°2 over 55 sts, 5 garter sts.

Work 11 times the LACE PATTERN N°2 complete and then rows 1) to 5) again.

– Knit 6 rows.

– Bind off with US 6 (4 mm) needle. Cut yarn and weave in ends.

– Block your square to its final measures.

INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE THE BLANKET SEAMLESS

  • Work back and forth on circular needles to accommodate all stitches.
  • The following instructions will guide you to make a blanket with 8 rows in garter stitch at the bottom and top ends, and 6 garter stitches at each lateral edge. Feel free to change it to your liking!
  • If you decide to use the provisional cast-on method to add a knitted border after finishing the blanket, cast on 195 sts instead of 200, and proceed to the first lace pattern directly.

AFTER knitting lace pattern N°1 and the garter st rows (or one of the lace patterns separators I shared for the seamless version of this KAL), you’ll have 195 sts again in your needle.

Continue working as follows:

6 garter sts, LACE PATTERN N°2 over 183 sts, 6 garter sts

After knitting the Lace Pattern for 4’’ (10 cm), ending with a WS row, work 4 rows
in garter stitch, increasing 5 sts evenly in the first row (you end up with 200 sts)
and decreasing 5 sts evenly in the last row (you end up with 195 sts again).

I calculated the final length for the seamless blanket assuming that each lace pattern is to be knitted for approx. 4’’ (10 cm), with 4 rows of garter stitch in between lace patterns.

LACE PATTERN N°2 – Written Instructions, seamless version

  • Over 6 sts and 8 rows. I added 3 more sts to complete an internal space of 183 sts.
  • Repeat instructions between brackets as many times as needed. For this block, make them a total of 30 times.

Row 1) (RS) k2tog, yo, [k1, yo, skp, k1, k2tog, yo], k1

Row 2) p all sts

Row 3) k2, [k2, yo, sk2p, yo, k1], k1

Row 4) p all sts

Row 5) yo, skp, [k1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, skp], k1

Row 6) p all sts

Row 7) k1, yo, [sk2p, yo, k3, yo], skp

Row 8) p all sts

LACE PATTERN N° 2 – Chart, seamless version

  • Read all odd rows from right to left, and all even rows from left to right.
  • Repeat the grey painted part as many times as the pattern calls for
(30 times horizontally in the case of this section).

  1. I am doing the second lace pattern but it calls for 30 repeats of 8 rows which makes it larger than the 10 repeats on square one. is that a typo

    1. Hi Pam! I think you’re reading the seamless version instructions. For the individual block you should knit 11 times the LACE PATTERN N°2 complete (8 rows x 11 times = 88 rows) and then rows 1) to 5) again (88 + 5 = 93 rows before the final garter st band).

    1. Oh, I see! I was confused for your reference to the 8 rows-repetition 🙂 You need to repeat 30 times horizontally (the part between brackets in the written instr / the gray part in the chart). 30 repeats of the 6-sts pattern.
