LACE PATTERN N 9

Hello there,

I ran out of grey yarn after block 8. I ordered some more online from a shop here that was open for deliveries and… they had to close again! Oh, well… The trouble of getting yarn during a pandemic, right?

Luckily I have more of the same yarn in other colors, so I guess I’ll have another multicolor blanket 😀

Enjoy your knitting!

ABBREVIATIONS

  • CO: cast on
  • BO: bind off
  • RS: right side
  • WS: wrong side
  • st: stitch
  • k: knit
  • p: purl
  • k2tog: knit 2 sts together
  • skp: slip 1 st as if to knit, knit 1 st, pass the slipped st over
  • yo: yarn over
  • p2tog: purl 2 sts together
  • p2togtbl: purl 2 sts together through back loop

INSTRUCTIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL SQUARES

– CO 65 sts with US 6 (4 mm) needles.

I always cast on and bind off stitches with larger needles than I use for the main work. This prevent my cast on and bind off rows from being too tight.

– With US 4 (3,5 mm) needles, knit 6 rows.

Slip first stitch on every row as if you were to knit it, but without knitting it (except on the first row). It will form a neat and sturdy border.

– Continue working as follows:

5 garter sts, LACE PATTERN N°9 over 55 sts, 5 garter sts.

Work 11 times the LACE PATTERN N 9 complete and then rows 1) to 5) again.

– Knit 6 rows.

– Bind off with US 6 (4 mm) needle. Cut yarn and weave in ends.

– Block your square to its final measures.

INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE THE BLANKET SEAMLESS

  • Work back and forth on circular needles to accommodate all stitches.
  • The following instructions will guide you to make a blanket with 8 rows in garter stitch at the bottom and top ends, and 6 garter stitches at each lateral edge. Feel free to change it to your liking!
  • If you decide to use the provisional cast-on method to add a knitted border after finishing the blanket, cast on 195 sts instead of 200, and proceed to the first lace pattern directly.

AFTER knitting lace pattern N°8 and the garter st rows (or one of the lace patterns separators I shared for the seamless version of this KAL), you’ll have 195 sts again in your needle.

Continue working as follows:

6 garter sts, LACE PATTERN N°9 over 183 sts, 6 garter sts

After knitting the Lace Pattern for 4’’ (10 cm), ending with a WS row, work 4 rows
in garter stitch, increasing 5 sts evenly in the first row (you end up with 200 sts)
and decreasing 5 sts evenly in the last row (you end up with 195 sts again).

I calculated the final length for the seamless blanket assuming that each lace pattern is to be knitted for approx. 4’’ (10 cm), with 4 rows of garter stitch in between lace patterns.
