STAIRS knitting stitch
This post was originally published in 2018 and has been updated with a new high-resolution chart, photo, and improved instructions for 2026.
Looking for a reversible knitting pattern? The Stairs stitch is a geometric, 8-stitch repeat that creates a bold diagonal ‘step’ design. Because it looks identical on both sides, it’s the perfect choice for scarves, cowls, and blankets. This beginner-friendly texture uses only knit and purl stitches. Part of the Oh La Lana! Stitch Library.
