WAFFLE RIB knitting stitch
This post was originally published in 2020 and has been updated with a new high-resolution chart, photo, and improved instructions for 2026.
Looking for a stitch that combines the elasticity of ribbing with the cozy depth of a waffle texture? Meet the Waffle Rib stitch. This beginner-friendly pattern uses only knit and purl stitches to create a thick, structured fabric that is perfect for hats, scarves, and warm baby blankets. Part of the Oh La Lana! Stitch Library (and a favourite from our 52 Square Pickup collection), this rhythmic 8-row repeat is as relaxing to knit as it is beautiful to look at.
