12 BLOCKS FOR XMAS patterns adapted to 52 SQUARE PICKUP measures

I recently published my revised version of my BEGINNER SAMPLER BLANKET (the one made during my “12 Blocks for Xmas” KAL. All block patterns will remain free in my blog, but you can buy the entire PDF with some additional features in my Etsy Shop , and here in my blog too.

As you already know, the “12 Block for Xmas” squares from my 2018 KAL had different amounts of stitches and rows than the blocks I’m publishing this year in my “52 Square Pickup” KAL.

I received several messages asking me if I could adjust the 2018 patterns to fit into the 52SP series. It took me a good amount of time, but I did it! So here they are 🙂

All patterns are below, in the same order I publish them last year. At the end of the post, there’s a link to purchase an 18 pages, high quality PDF with all patterns.

The file includes:

  • US and Metric needle sizing and dimensions.
  • abbreviations
  • galery of pattern stitches
  • charted and written row-by-row instructions for each block
  • control tables, specially designed for novice knitters. Each table has integrated row-by-row instructions of edge and pattern sts to avoid confusion, and boxes you can check as you finish each row

  1. Hi. I am loving this process and thrilled with the results. I have run into a difficulty with # 6, Dragon Scales. If I add in the 3 stitches, won’t it throw the pattern off. I’m not really sure how to do this.

    1. Hi Leslie! I’m happy to hear you like the project so far. Are you following the original instructions for Dragon Scales? (I mean, the ones here: https://ohlalana.com/dragon-scales-block-6-square-pickup/)
If your answer is “yes”, then you’re fine. DRAGON SCALES is a pattern worked over multiples of 8 sts. But since we need to cover 35 “pattern sts” for the block you need to add 3 (8×4= 32, 3 less than needed). I’m sorry if this is a bit confusing…
But if you follow the row-by-row instructions you should be fine. Those 3 sts are considered in every row (they’re the ones left outside the brackets).
Please ask again if this doesn’t make sense to you. I’ll be happy to help!
