BLOCK 2 of Blanket MKAL 2022

Hello! If you are just beginning this MKAL, you’ll find useful the following links:

  • General information (materials, gauge, FAQ, etc.) for this MKAL for intermediate knitters HERE.
  • Block 1 pattern HERE.

Today’s block introduces a new technique I call “TWIST”, and you can read more about it in the “Abbreviations and notes” section. It’s a very straightforward thing (ktbl in RS and ptbl in WS) but I’m still working on mastering it. I can’t seem to get the tension right! Isn’t it frustrating when you find easy things challenging?

As always, I encourage you to use the comments section to send me a message if you have any doubt. Or any other thing to say 😊

Have a great weekend and happy knitting!

Ceci

PS: if you want to share your progress in social media, please use the hashtag #ohlalanaMKAL2022. That helps me a lot and I love to see photos of your knitting!

Block 2 MKAL 2022

ABBREVIATIONS

  • CO: cast on
  • BO: bind off
  • RS: right side
  • WS: wrong side
  • st: stitch
  • k: knit
  • p: purl
  • yo: yarn over
  • S2KP: slip 2 sts together knit-wise, k1, pass the 2 slipped sts over (together)
  • 1B, k2, p1B: slip 1 st to cable needle and hold in back, k next 2 sts, p1 from cable needle.
  • 2F, p1, k2F: slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold in front, p next st, k2 from cable needle.
  • 2F, k2, k2F: slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold in front, k next 2 sts, k2 sts from cable needle.
  • 2B, k2, k2B: slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold in back, k next 2 sts, k2 sts from cable needle.
  • TWIST = ktbl (RS) / ptbl (WS):
    • ktbl: knit through back loop
    • ptbl: purl through back loop

I call “TWIST” to a twisted stocking stitch. This is an element frequent in japanese stitch patterns and pops up visually when surrounded by reverse stocking stitch. It also has a stiffer texture than a common stocking stitch line and you can notice that by touching the chain formed by these twisted stitches.

INSTRUCTIONS

– CO 70 sts with US 6 (4 mm) needles.

– With US 4 (3.5 mm) needles, knit 6 rows. In the last row, increase 3 sts distribuited (73 sts).

– Continue working as follows:

5 garter sts, BLOCK N°2 pattern over 63 sts, 5 garter sts.

Work 3 times the BLOCK N°2 pattern complete and then rows 1) to 17) again.

Knit 6 rows, decreasing 3 sts in the first row to return to a total stitch count of 70.

– Bind off with US 6 (4 mm) needle. Cut yarn and weave in ends.

Block your square to its final measures. You can read my post on blocking if you need more info.

Do you want more squares?

All blocks in my Blanket MKAL 2021 have the same size (stitches and rows) than the one I’ll be sharing this year. So, if you want to make a larger blanket, those squares will be perfect!
