LACE PATTERN N°1 of Mystery Lace Blanket KAL 2020

LACE PATTERN N°1

Hello, and welcome to the first pattern of my Mystery Lace Blanket KAL for 2020!! 😀✨🎉 Please read the following notes BEFORE STARTING:

  • I wrote 2 sets of instructions: one for knitting each square individually, and one to make the blanket seamless. They have different extra sts, so make sure to follow the right instructions.
  • If you support me on Patreon or made a donation for this project, please check your email inbox 😉
  • Leave your comment below if you have any doubt or question, or if you just want to say “hi!”. I’ll reply ASAP. You can also join our Ravelry group 😊
  • BEFORE sharing my LACE PATTERN N° 2, I’ll write a post providing one or two alternatives to knit between lace patterns for the seamless version.
  • I added releasing dates for all blocks in the main page for the project. You might find it useful to organize your knitting schedule. If you’re like me, there’s always so much knitting going on! 😂

ABBREVIATIONS

  • CO: cast on
  • BO: bind off
  • RS: right side
  • WS: wrong side
  • st: stitch
  • k: knit
  • p: purl
  • k2tog: knit 2 sts together
  • skp: slip 1 st as if to knit, knit 1 st, pass the slipped st over
  • SK2P: slip 1 st as if to knit, k2tog, pass the slipped st over
  • yo: yarn over

INSTRUCTIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL SQUARES

– CO 65 sts with US 6 (4 mm) needles.

I always cast on and bind off stitches with larger needles than I use for the main work. This prevent my cast on and bind off rows from being too tight.

– With US 4 (3,5 mm) needles, knit 6 rows.

Slip first stitch on every row as if you were to knit it, but without knitting it (except on the first row). It will form a neat and sturdy border.

– Continue working as follows:

5 garter sts, LACE PATTERN N°1 over 55 sts, 5 garter sts.

Work 11 times the LACE PATTERN N°1 complete and then rows 1) to 5) again.

– Knit 6 rows.

– Bind off with US 6 (4 mm) needle. Cut yarn and weave in ends.

– Block your square to its final measures.

LACE PATTERN N°1 – Written Instructions

  • Over 18 sts and 8 rows. I added 1 more st to complete an internal space of 55 sts.
  • Repeat instructions between brackets as many times as needed. For this block, make them a total of 3 times.

Row 1) (RS) [p2, yo, k2, skp, yo, k2, sk2p, k2, yo, k2tog, k2, yo, p1], p1

Row 2) k1, [k1, p15, k2]

Row 3) [p2, k1, yo, k2, skp, k5, k2tog, k2, yo, k1, p1], p1

Row 4) k1, [k1, p15, k2]

Row 5) [p2, k2, yo, k2, skp, k3, k2tog, k2, yo, k2, p1], p1

Row 6) k1, [k1, p15, k2]

Row 7) [p2, k3, yo, k2, skp, k1, k2tog, k2, yo, k3, p1], p1

Row 8) k1, [k1, p15, k2]

LACE PATTERN N° 1 – Chart

  • Read all odd rows from right to left, and all even rows from left to right.
  • Repeat the grey painted part as many times as the pattern calls for (3 times horizontally in the case of this block).

INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE THE BLANKET SEAMLESS

  • Work back and forth on circular needles to accommodate all stitches.
  • The following instructions will guide you to make a blanket with 8 rows in garter stitch at the bottom and top ends, and 6 garter stitches at each lateral edge. Feel free to change it to your liking!
  • If you decide to use the provisional cast-on method to add a knitted border after finishing the blanket, cast on 195 sts instead of 200, and proceed to the first lace pattern directly.

1) CO 200 sts with US 6 (4 mm) needles.

2) With US 4 (3,5 mm) circular needles, knit 8 rows, decreasing 5 sts evenly in the last row (you end up with 195 sts).

3) Continue working as follows:

6 garter sts, LACE PATTERNS over 183 sts, 6 garter sts.

After knitting a Lace Pattern for 4’’ (10 cm), ending with a WS row, work 4 rows
in garter stitch, increasing 5 sts evenly in the first row (you end up with 200 sts)
and decreasing 5 sts evenly in the last row (you end up with 195 sts again).

I calculated the final length for the seamless blanket assuming that each lace pattern is to be knitted for approx. 4’’ (10 cm), with 4 rows of garter stitch in between lace patterns.

  1. Looks like a beautiful start to the blanket. I am on the fence about whether or not I should do the seamless version or the individual blocks. Either way, it is going to be pretty. I dropped you some coin via paypal. Thank you for your generosity. Now I am trying to figure out a way to feign illness so I can leave work early and cast on!

    1. 🤣🤣 How about knitting deprivation symptoms? Do you think they will believe it?
Thank you a lot, I already sent you the file to your email! 😘

  2. There was a mistake in row 7) of both row-by-row instructions, but I just fixed it. Thank you Barbara for letting me know!!!
