In a previous post I showed you how to make some POKER COASTERS but forgot to include the pattern for the placemat in the photo. I was recently asked for it and, after some days of searching over 27 notebooks (I really need to start drafting pattern ideas in a digital way) I’m happy to report that I’ve found it! So now I can complete sharing with you my entire POKER KNITTING SET 🙂
You can find the introduction for the stranded colorwork tecnique and the 4 coaster patterns in the original post here —> POKER COASTERS

PATTERN DETAILS for the POKER PLACEMAT
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Width: approx. 16.25’’ (40.5 cm).
Length: approx. 11.25’’ (28 cm).
Of course, this will vary if your tension is different than mine or if you decide to knit them with another yarn weight and needle size.
Tension / gauge
18.5 sts x 25 rows in stocking st with US 7 (4.5 mm) needles = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm)
Materials
- 1 straight needle US 8 (5 mm) for Casting on and Binding Off sts.
- 1 pair of straight needles US 7 (4.5 mm).
- Worsted yarn in green, red and black colors. OR fingering or sport yarn USED DOUBLE.
- Tapestry needle to weave in yarn ends and scissors.
INSTRUCTIONS
1) CO 75 sts with US 8 (5 mm) needles and green color yarn.
I always cast on and bind off stitches with larger needles than I use for the main work. This prevent my cast on and bind off rows from being too tight. |
2) With US 7 (4.5 mm) needles, work 4 rows in seed / moss stitch (see the stitch glossary at the end).
Slip first stitch on every row as if you were to knit it, but without knitting it (except on the first row). It will form a neat and sturdy border. |
3) Work 2 rows as follows:
4 seed / moss sts, 67 stocking sts, 4 seed / moss sts
4) Continue working as follows for the next 23 rows:
4 seed / moss sts, 2 stocking sts, HEART pattern (17 sts), 29 stocking sts, CLUB pattern (17 sts), 2 stocking sts, 4 seed / moss sts.
5) Work 13 rows as follows:
4 seed / moss sts, 67 stocking sts, 4 seed / moss sts
6) Continue working as follows for the next 23 rows:
4 seed / moss sts, 2 stocking sts, SPADE pattern (17 sts), 29 stocking sts, DIAMOND pattern (17 sts), 2 stocking sts, 4 seed / moss sts.
7) Work 2 rows as follows:
4 seed / moss sts, 67 stocking sts, 4 seed / moss sts
8) Work 4 rows in seed / moss stitch.
9) Bind off with US 8 (5 mm) needle. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
