DIAMOND PADDING Knitting Pattern

The Diamond Padding is one of my favourite knit-and-purl textures. It looks elegant and squishy, and it is oh-so-simple! This pattern follows the 52SP Standard, making it 100% compatible with the vast majority of blocks in the Oh La Lana! library. Therefore, you can also use this pattern as one of the building blocks for your own, unique sampler blanket.

PATTERN DETAILS

The high quality PDF file includes:

– US and Metric needle sizing and dimensions.
– abbreviations
– written instructions
– clear, high-contrast chart (updated 2026)
– row-by-row control table: specially prepared for novice knitters. The table has integrated instructions for the block pattern AND edge stitches, to avoid confusion. You can use the cells to check each row as you finish it, and there is a column for every repeat of the pattern you need to make according to the instructions. A great resource to print and check your progress as you knit.

SKILL LEVEL
Beginner (only knits and purls)

MATERIALS
– 1 straight needle US 7 (4.5 mm) for Casting on and Binding Off sts.
– 1 pair of straight needles US 6 (4 mm).
– approx. 70 yds (64 m) of DK yarn (8 ply). OR 140 yds (128 m) of light fingering yarn (approx 3 ply) USED DOUBLE.
– tapestry needle to weave in yarn ends and scissors.

GAUGE / TENSION
21 sts x 28 rows in stocking st with US 6 (4 mm needles) and DK yarn = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm)

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Length / Width: approx. 8.5’’ (22 cm).
❤ PLEASE NOTE: the final measurement will vary if your tension is different than mine or if you decide to knit your dishcloth/block with another yarn weight and needle size.
