ABBREVIATIONS

  • CO: cast on
  • BO: bind off
  • RS: right side
  • WS: wrong side
  • st: stitch
  • k: knit
  • p: purl
  • k2tog: knit 2 sts together
  • skp: slip 1 st as if to knit, knit 1 st, pass the slipped st over

  • k3tog: knit 3 sts together

INSTRUCTIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL SQUARES

– CO 65 sts with US 6 (4 mm) needles.

I always cast on and bind off stitches with larger needles than I use for the main work. This prevent my cast on and bind off rows from being too tight.

– With US 4 (3,5 mm) needles, knit 6 rows.

Slip first stitch on every row as if you were to knit it, but without knitting it (except on the first row). It will form a neat and sturdy border.

– Continue working as follows:

5 garter sts, LACE PATTERN N°4 over 55 sts, 5 garter sts.

Work 3 times the LACE PATTERN N°4 complete and then rows 1) to 21) again.

– Knit 6 rows.

– Bind off with US 6 (4 mm) needle. Cut yarn and weave in ends.

– Block your square to its final measures.

LACE PATTERN N°4 – Written Instructions

  • Over 12 sts and 24 rows. I added 19 more st to center the motif and complete an internal space of 55 sts.

LACE PATTERN N° 4 – Chart

  • Read all odd rows from right to left, and all even rows from left to right.
  • Repeat the grey painted part as many times as the pattern calls for
(3 times horizontally in the case of this block).

INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE THE BLANKET SEAMLESS

  • Work back and forth on circular needles to accommodate all stitches.
  • The following instructions will guide you to make a blanket with 8 rows in garter stitch at the bottom and top ends, and 6 garter stitches at each lateral edge. Feel free to change it to your liking!
  • If you decide to use the provisional cast-on method to add a knitted border after finishing the blanket, cast on 195 sts instead of 200, and proceed to the first lace pattern directly.

AFTER knitting lace pattern N°3 and the garter st rows (or one of the lace patterns separators I shared for the seamless version of this KAL), you’ll have 195 sts again in your needle.

Continue working as follows:

6 garter sts, LACE PATTERN N°4 over 183 sts, 6 garter sts

After knitting the Lace Pattern for 4’’ (10 cm), ending with a WS row, work 4 rows
in garter stitch, increasing 5 sts evenly in the first row (you end up with 200 sts)
and decreasing 5 sts evenly in the last row (you end up with 195 sts again).

I calculated the final length for the seamless blanket assuming that each lace pattern is to be knitted for approx. 4’’ (10 cm), with 4 rows of garter stitch in between lace patterns.

LACE PATTERN N°4 – Written Instructions, seamless version

  • Over 12 sts and 24 rows. I added 15 more sts to center the pattern and complete an internal space of 183 sts.
  • Repeat instructions between brackets as many times as needed. For this block, make them a total of 14 times.

  1. Hi, I posted this question on Ravelry last night, but thought I’d also ask here. When I cast on my seamless blanket, I cast on 18 additional stitches to make it a little wider. It’s worked out fine until Clue #4. Because this clue is now being worked in multiples of 12, I am going to be off by 6 stitches. Any suggestions as to how I should handle this? Thank you.

    1. Hi there,
I can help you, no problem. How many internal sts do you have to knit in lace pattern?

      1. Thanks for your response. I also put this on Ravelry, but feel free to answer here if you prefer. I will check both places. I have 201 internal stitches for the lace pattern, plus 12 edge stitches (6 on each edge) for a total of 213 stitches on my needle.

        1. Great! You can follow the instructions for the INDIVIDUAL BLOCK, but repeating the main pattern (charted in grey / written between brackets) 15 times. With the extra 19 sts on those instructions you reach 199. I would add 1 extra p st at each side to meet your needed 201. What do you think? I’ll also paste this in Ravelry, in case someone else find it useful.
