ABBREVIATIONS

  • CO: cast on
  • RS: right side
  • WS: wrong side
  • st: stitch
  • k: knit
  • p: purl

INSTRUCTIONS

– CO 43 sts with US 7 (4.5 mm) needles.

I always cast on and bind off stitches with larger needles than I use for the main work. This prevent my cast on and bind off rows from being too tight.

– With US 6 (4 mm) needles, knit 4 rows.

Slip first stitch on every row as if you were to knit it, but without knitting it (except on the first row). It will form a neat and sturdy border.

– Continue working as follows:

4 garter sts, OWL (a or b) pattern over 35 sts, 4 garter sts (55 rows).

– Knit 4 rows.

– Bind off with US 7 (4.5 mm) needle. Cut yarn and weave in ends.

      1. I am behind on my square!! I ran out of the pretty blue and I thought I had the same yarn in purple, but apparently I was wrong. I have black. I am way too old for black!! haha! I can only work on it during the day or outside. I am a loser. How are things in your neck of the woods?

        1. haha, I can’t knit with black at night either, or sew anything dark! But I put the blame on the light bulb, not the calendar 🤪 I can hear my light bulb laugh… Everything’s fine here, but it feels a bit like the calm before the storm. Or at least as fine as it can be when you don’t have any idea how things will develop in the future or how much time will it take to get back to “normality”.
Anyway, I’m happy to hear from you! Take care, xo

  1. Something is wrong with pattern! On does 30 and 32 I only come up with 32 stitches instead of 43!! HELP!!!!

    1. Hi Louise! I just checked and the pattern is right. Remember that I only give row-by-row the instructions for the 35 inside sts. I make 4 garter sts at each side as borders, but I know some people changes the border to make their squares larger or with a stitch other than garter. Rows 30 and 32 add up to 35, same as the rest 🙂
      Happy knitting!

  2. how much difference is there in the two owl patterns?? i notice one B chubby version so it comes out bigger?? also they start out the same and by row 7 or more they start to differ and by end of pattern they come back to being the same… i am off some on patterns don’t knit in order but i am getting there. thanks for help on this one pattern. stay safe and bee blessed.
