This is one of the patterns I designed and shared during my “52 SQUARE PICKUP” Blanket KAL from 2019. It was project comprised of 56 different patterns (I ended up sharing more!), suitable to make a huge blanket. All blocks have the same characteristics (number of sts and rows, gauge/tension, materials, etc) and require a skill level of beginner (only knits and purls).

You can buy the entire pattern collection HERE (sneak peek 👇). As a “Beginner Stitch Patterns” book it could be a great resource for your future projects.

You can also buy it in sections: patterns 1 to 20 (HERE), patterns 21 to 40 (HERE) and patterns 41 to 52 (HERE).

FLAGS: BLOCK 1 OF 52 SQUARE PICKUP

FLAGS stitch knitting pattern 52 SQUARE PICKUP knitted blanket OhLaLana dishcloth free pattern

Hello!! We start our “52-SQUARE PICKUP” KAL with a pattern that has a lot of texture: flags stitch pattern. I hope you like it as much as I do 🙂

Next block will be published next Friday. I’ll try to take this week to think about the best time to release each pattern. We are part of a global community and I know some of you are reading this on Saturday 5th!! It is so strange to try to work with different time zones… I’ll do my best and let you know.

See you soon!

Cecilia

PS: I already started with the Alphabet Dishcloths, did you see it? Letter A is ready! I plan to check all boxes in my 2019 goals list 🙂

As I told you in the article “2019 Projects at a Glance“, one of my goals for this year is to design and share patterns for Alphabet dishcloths, all 26 capital letters. So… here’s the first one!

Cecilia

PS: you can also use this pattern as a blanket block. It has the same number of stitches and rows as my “52 square pickup” ones 😉

BLANKET SIZES

It is always useful, especially when planning to knit a blanket, to have at hand the measures for all different sizes. I leave you below a table with the standard sizes for blankets.

POKER COASTERS

POKER COASTERS knitting pattern ohlalana poker knitting pattern

Hello! If you follow me on Instagram or read my comments in Oh La Lana’s Ravelry group, you might’ve been waiting for these Poker coasters 🙂 I had with the idea of design them while arranging some poker cards to make a photo shoot for Oh La Lana!’s “52-Square Pickup” KAL. By the way, did I tell you that the first pattern will be released in January 4th? And it’s FREE! Be on the lookout 😉 Well , anyway, let’s get back to coasters…

Knitting coasters is a great way to develop your stranded colorwork knitting skills (such as Fair Isle). If you don’t know what stranded colorwork knitting is, let me tell you: is a group of knitting techniques used to create patterns with multiple colors. Examples of stranded colorwork techniques are Fair Isle and Scandinavian colorwork. The most important thing to learn about stranded colorwork is to get the exact amount of tension in the unused yarn strands in the back (known as “floats”) to prevent your work from puckering. Look, I’ll show you an example:

In this case the floats on the back side were pull too tightly, resulting in a puckered coaster. See how the side edges tend to go towards the center?

Here you can see the floats have the right tension and the edges are relaxed instead of pulling towards the center.

Ok, warning made 😉 With no further ado, let’s go to the patterns!
